Nelly Radeva - founder of I Can Too

About:
I Can Too foundation was established in 2006 as a private initiative by Nelly Radeva who lives in Germany. Today the organization exists entirely on a charity basis, receiving grant support from partners from different areas - the Arts, Sport, Business, the Media as well as the support of governmental and non-governmental organizations.

The Mission:
I Can Too's mission is to make life easier for children with special needs.
By utilizing media and cultural events throughout the year, I Can Too aim is to make society aware of all the problems and urgent needs of these children and to foster their integration.

Results:
Fortunately, the efforts of I Can Too have concrete results.
In 2008, I Can Too along with the parent organization "Children with problems in development" opened a Rehab Medical Center for disabled children in Sofia.
The Center was designed by the best rehab center in Western Europe - The Kindercentrum - Munich, Germany. It was created in five months with the social participation of different companies as well as individuals that supported its creation only with labor and materials.
Currently the center is rehabilitating over 370 children per month.

Many Bulgarian and International celebrities became Ambassadors of the foundation, popularizing its mission worldwide.

Current goal:
The creation of Centers for Autistic children.
According to the State Agency for Child Protection, the children with autism in Bulgaria are over 16 000.
For the last two years I Can Too works on popularizing the need for the establishment of such Centers, by making initiatives, media events and activities.
As a result of these activities:

- The Municipality in Plovdiv has provided gratuitously to I Can Too a space of 400 square meters for the creation of the Center. This space needs to be renovated. I Can Too needs to raise 200 000 BGN for the achievement of this goal;
- The government of Stara Zagora provides I Can Too a place of 700 square meters for the Center for Autistic children.

Nomination and awards:
In 2009 I Can Too foundation was nominated by Bulgarian Helsinki Committee for Organization of the year for contribution in support of human rights.
In 2010 I Can Too Won the Award "The Best Campaign of 2010".

Motto of I Can Too:
I Can Too believes that: "Everyone CAN ...create a better world...by doing whatever they CAN best."

I Can Too utilizes media and cultural events aiming to improve the current inadequate living conditions for disabled children. The combination of the media with the arts are the most effective vehicle to spread this message. I Can Too's goal is to make society aware of the problems they face everyday.

Established as a private initiative, today I Can Too is supported by many governmental and non-governmental organizations, media and companies.

In 2008 I Can Too opened a Rehab Medical Center for children with disabilities in Sofia. Actual goal of I Can Too is the creation of Centre for Autistic Children in Plovdiv.
The foundation has popularized the necessity of that kind of Center for two years by organizing different initiatives, concerts, media events, etc.
Thanks to these activities, Municipality Plovdiv gives I Can Too 400 m² at third floor of a clinic in the city. Now the foundation is working on renovating the place.

After four years of work in Bulgaria I Can Too got in the society by constant (rather than campaign) activities, aimed at popularizing the problems of disabled children.

I. Actual goals:

A) Opening of Center for Autistic children.

B) Adapted houses /small centers/ for children with disabilities.

II. Long-term goals:

1. Utilizing of social initiatives

- popularization of integration problems of disabled children;
- popularizing the problems of disabled children and their families by means of art /creating cultural events/.

2. Financial support of existing medical centers for disabled children

3. Creating of medical centers for disabled children in accordance with European standards.

4. Through media:

Change of public attitude towards disabled children and their families and consequently a change in their social standing - increasing the awareness of the society of their real needs and problems.

5. With the support of state institutions:

Pressing need of change in the infrastructure of the cities. Solving the problems of accessibility for people with disabilities and giving them the possibility to become an equal part of the community in which they live.

2010

I Can Too was nominated by WCIF of "Together" Awards in two of the four categories - for "The best campaign of NGO" and "The best campaign of 2010".

I Can Too won the award for "Best Campaign of 2010".

2009

I Can Too was nominated by two institutions in three categories:

1. By Bulgarian Helsinki Committee for "Organization of the year" for contribution in support of human rights.
2. By Grazia Magazine - the president of the foundation Nelly Radeva was nominated for "Woman of the year 2009" in the category "Charity".

3. By Grazia Magazine - nomination and prize "Ambassador of I Can Too" for the supporters of the foundation - pop singers Alex Raeva, Maria Ilieva, Krista and Viky from Mastilo band. Their engagement as ambassadors of good will serves as a positive example in the society.
